He is a Chartered Engineer in the UK (CEng) and Europe - FEANI (EUR ING), a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (MIStructE) and the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE). Dr Tsavdaridis is engaged in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, an industry consultant and a leading expert in the area of steel and composite structures.

His research expertise is in structural product development that embraces resilience and sustainability; particularly the development of innovative seismic-resistant design of connections, testing large and full-scale structural systems and using advanced modelling techniques. He has been awarded several large research grants to develop his ideas and he is funded from research councils and the industry. He has published over 160 scientific articles, journal publications, technical reports and international conference papers, for which some he has been the recipient of awards and prizes. He is an active member at international technical committees and standardisations panels; for example, the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS), the British Standards Institution, the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork, the International Federation for Structural Concrete,  the International Association for Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE), the Hellenic Steel Structures Research Society (EEME), the Hellenic Association for Earthquake Engineering (ETAM), and the Hellenic Institute for the Fire Protection of Structures (ELIPYKA). In 2019, Dr Tsavdaridis was awarded with the prestigious Leverhulme Trust Senior Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering for his work in steel modular construction.
